Dear Community Members,

Our grant program is aimed at supporting innovative projects that benefit our community.

Eligible applicants are non-profit 501(c)(3) organizations in Craven County. Applications will be accepted during two terms: May 1 through October 31 with a decision in November and November 1 through April 30 with a decision in May. For more details, please contact us directly.

We are offering grants up to $2,500 per application, per term, as outlined above. Preference will be given to projects that will align with at least one of Rotary’s focus areas listed in Appendix A attached.

GRANT TERMS & CONDITIONS

New Bern Breakfast Rotary Charities (NBBRC) will assess requests for funding from nonprofit 501(c)(3) organizations in Craven County, using this form only. Please include copy of your W-9 with your proposal. Your ongoing or future programs/projects must support at least one of Rotary’s focus areas, which are listed in Appendix A.

Grant applications may be submitted during two terms in the year:

          May 1 through October 31 with a decision in November

          November 1 through April 30 with a decision in May

Organizations should complete one form per funding request, per term, and each request may be up to $2,500,00. Grant budgets should be scaled for award flexibility as not all grants will be awarded at the maximum amount. Applications must be submitted to the following address:

11. If your organization is awarded a grant, you must submit a brief report via email to [email protected] within 30 days after the funded project is completed that includes the information listed below.

  • A summary written report of one page in length, that briefly describes the results of the project and whether the results match the goals identified in paragraph 7 above. Please explain any challenges that prevented you from meeting your goals. Include final budget showing actual income and expenses.
  • At least two labeled photographs that demonstrate the project results.
  • Copies of any print or on-line articles written about the efforts done with the grant funding, if any.

Note: The NBBRC will not consider requests for funds to cover debt retirement or make community grants to endowment funds or individuals.

Appendix A

New Bern Breakfast Rotary Charities will consider support for a wide range of programs and services that benefit our local community through this grant program, but will give priority to programs and projects that fall within the seven Rotary focus areas listed below.

a. Peace & Conflict Prevention/Resolution: Includes projects that foster understanding and provides communities with the skills to build relationships, and resolve conflicts.

b. Disease Prevention and Treatment: Includes projects that educate and equip communities to stop the spread of diseases such as, but not limited to, polio, HIV/AIDS, Alzheimer’s, multiple sclerosis, diabetes and malaria.

c. Clean Water and Sanitation: Includes projects that enable clean water, sanitation, and hygiene education. 

d. Maternal and Child Health: Includes projects that provide education, immunizations, birth kits, and mobile health clinics.

e. Basic Education and Literacy: Includes projects that strengthen the capacity of communities to support basic education and literacy, reduce gender disparity in education, and increase adult literacy. We support education for all children and literacy for children and adults.        

f. Economic & Community Development: Includes projects that strengthen local entrepreneurs and community leaders; and those that aid with employment and training.

g. Protecting the Environment: Includes education initiatives that promote behavior that protects the environment; projects that enhance the capacity of communities to support natural resource management and conservation; and projects that promote sustainable agriculture, fishing, and aquaculture practices.
