For 17 years, in mid-November, elementary and middle schools throughout Craven County are invited to select students who are in need of a new pair of shoes. To date the New Bern Breakfast Rotary Club has provided more than 5,500 pairs of shoes at a cost exceeding $220,000.

Over two mornings, the selected students are bused to The Athlete’s Foot store in New Bern where New Bern Breakfast Rotarians are eager to meet them and help each child pick the perfect pair of new sneakers. Not only does this program ensure that the children have comfortable and serviceable shoes but it helps build self-esteem; so critical in youth development.
