Rotary takes great pride in their contributions to communities around the world. Rotary Clubs from the USA team with Clubs in underprivileged areas of the world to bring services to communities in need. These international relationships are often initiated when Rotarians travel with other organizations and then recognize needs that can be supported by Rotary.
Such is the case when one of our Club members traveling with "Operation Honduras" met with a local Rotarian in San Pedro Sula who was the director of the El Refugio orphanage. The director, Christof Witwer, was not familiar with the Rotary dictionary project but was intrigued by the idea of his young charges each receiving their own dictionary.
In early 2020 when a member of the New Bern Breakfast Club was again in Honduras, as a volunteer, she carried 135 dictionaries to donate to 5th- and 6th-grade students at the El Refugio orphanage and the nearby Chedrani primary school.
